Thought Adjuster: “From time to time, you wonder whether something you are doing or have done is in accordance with ‘the rules’ or whether it should be considered ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ This is valid during the early stages of spiritual development and is, in fact, an indispensable step in the lives of those who wish to become progressively better. However, as you advance on your journey toward perfection and your spiritual discernment becomes clearer, this way of thinking must be set aside.

The new standard used by those who have glimpsed a little of their eternal destiny is: What destiny am I creating for myself? What kind of person do I want to be? How closely does the personality I am building resemble the one the Father wishes to express through me? Your primary task at this stage of your existence is to create a new being with the help of your Heavenly Father. This new being will be an original manifestation of God throughout all creation and will be a co-creative agent who will help manifest the Father's will throughout the universes.

By using this new standard, the decisions you make become clearer, and your actions acquire a new significance. You will no longer be governed by the rules of men, but by a higher standard. Human rules are a starting point, but the spiritual principles that arise in the hearts of those who seek perfection promote a higher expression of personality and seek to express the truth, beauty, and goodness that the creature increasingly understands.

In every decision you make, do not rely on the human concept of good or evil. There are many things that your laws permit, even when they go against the highest principles of true spirituality. In many places, killing is condoned as long as it is a matter of honor or an act of self-defense. Even when human law may permit it, taking another person's life is an abhorrent act to all souls who have accepted that they are children of God.

From now on, consider how each decision and action brings you closer to what you wish to become. Build in your mind an increasingly beautiful and truthful ideal of personality. Imagine the noblest and kindest personality, and then strive to become what you have imagined. Indeed, this will be the highest image of God that you can comprehend with your mortal mind, and your effort to approach this ideal represents your soul's effort to progress in spirit and live according to the Father's will.

Through your life experiences and your desire to become progressively better, this ideal you have built in your mind will gradually become clearer and draw ever closer to the truth of the Father's nature. Likewise, your efforts to become what you have dreamed of will bring you ever closer to the goal of perfection. In this way, you will always know with certainty which things bring you closer to your goal and which things hinder the attainment of perfection. This will illuminate every decision you must make at each step along your journey through life.

However, remember that even when the path is clear, choosing the right course of action is not easier. Many decisions can be difficult, and on many occasions you will need to draw upon your faith and courage. But you will always have the comfort of knowing that when you choose wisely and with the highest intention, any confusion or suffering is only temporary, for it represents just one more step on your ascent toward greater usefulness and more lasting happiness.”
