Thought Adjuster: “In everything you decide to do in your life, you must learn to examine the hidden motives behind each impulse, each decision. Is it really so difficult to determine whether a true need must be met? Is the reason why you feel motivated to attempt something truly indecipherable? In reality, motives are always evident—perhaps more so to those who observe you than to yourself. Needs are also easy to identify. The problem is that many times human beings are reluctant to accept that they may have been wrong and are slow to admit the weaknesses of their character, when in fact realizing that a wrong path has been taken and correcting course in time is the most eloquent demonstration of a noble, brave, and balanced character.

Many of you focus on two main needs: having more free time and having more money. Let’s evaluate these two needs. If you could work only five minutes a day, would you really spend the rest of the day with your family or loved ones? No, because they also have things to do—their school, their work, their social life, etc. In reality, the gain in time you think you would achieve would actually be minimal.

Now let’s talk about money. Why do you want more money? To travel to places that people consider important? To buy more things to entertain yourself? To eat tastier meals? None of these things are true needs. If your family is going hungry and you don’t have enough to ensure their well-being, you must make every effort to obtain the resources necessary to support yourself and your loved ones. But if in this area all is well and you even have more than you need, what more are you seeking, if you lack nothing?

Many of the needs you imagine are just that—the product of your imagination. The happiness of your life will not be measured by the number of places you have visited or the riches you accumulated. In the end, only you and your Adjuster will be able to judge your life, its success, or its failure. You will know perfectly well whether you have been happy or not, and the reason why you lived that way. In fact, you could know it right now. By simply imagining that you lost some of the truly important things in your present life (your family, your health, your mind), you would realize how irrelevant those supposed material needs you try to satisfy really are.

Many say they desire wealth in order to help more. However, do you think that if you were the richest man in the world and built a thousand buildings to help those without shelter and food, the Father would love you more? Do you think you would use your talents better if you became the most famous preacher in the world, the spiritual guide of humanity? It is the motivations of the heart that make a human being valuable in the eyes of the Father. He is the only one who can see inside you and who understands you completely. Yes, the famous guru may accumulate some spiritual credit, but the achievements of a father or a mother who lives a life striving to be an image of God for her children and for all those who cross her path are equally valuable.

Do you want to explore your talents to the fullest? Do you want to express the best of your personality and become a true agent of God in the world? Look within yourself for the inspiration to achieve it. Live each day with the explicit purpose of being the best you can be, even aspiring to be like God—or like Jesus. The opportunities that will bring you closer to the true goal of your life will come to you, and if your determination remains constant—if you continue striving to satisfy your hunger for truth and your thirst for righteousness—these opportunities will not go unnoticed.”
