Do others share your definition of spiritual terms?

My dearest brothers and sisters,

What does the term “enlightenment” mean?

Well, let’s say that John over here believes that enlightenment means: “freedom from the cycle of rebirth.” Most likely John thinks that this is the sole definition of enlightenment, and John thinks that everyone shares his definition (except maybe a few people who are simply wrong).

However, let’s say Anna believes that enlightenment means something else, such as say “the attainment of the natural state.” And likely Anna believes that this is the sole definition of enlightenment.

And let’s say Julianne believes that enlightenment means “liberation from suffering.” And likely she believes that this is the sole definition of enlightenment.

And then there are a bunch of other people having yet other definitions, such as:

“a state of complete inner peace”

“embodying the knowledge that you’re a reincarnating soul, and not just a body and a brain.”

“full awareness of reality”

“the ability to see through illusions”

“a state of complete integration, including of the shadow”

“an end of identification”

“embodying the principle that all is one, and accepting everything”

“non-resistance to everything”

“nonduality (no separation between observer and the observed)”

“integration of the truth of no-self”

So here you have the curious situation that a whole lot of people use one term to refer to slightly different things. They’re all convinced that everyone else agrees with their personal definition, when in reality those other people think that everyone else agrees with THEIR personal definition.

Sometimes it’s fine to use spiritual terms to point to “something roughly over there.” Sometimes that’s completely fine, and being very precise would just mean wasting words.

However, if you’re having precise discussions about enlightenment or other spiritual terms, it becomes important to actually share your definition of the terms with other people. Otherwise you might end up talking past each other.

Even if you’re convinced that you have the sole true definition of enlightenment, it can still prevent miscommunications if you just state your definition whenever you’re having an in-depth discussion about enlightenment. Because even if others have a wrong definition in mind, well, why not help them by sharing your definition with them?

Additionally, if you’re intellectually honest and you study a lot of enlightened people, you might find that it’s not actually that easy to give a definition for enlightenment.

If you give me your definition of enlightenment, I can probably point to someone who fits your definition but that most people wouldn’t agree is enlightened; or I can point to someone who most people would say is enlightened yet doesn’t fit your definition.

And if your definition is so unmeasurable or unfalsifiable that I can’t do this, then your definition isn’t very useful.

If you have a definition of enlightenment that can’t be practically checked (e.g. freedom from the cycle of rebirth), then most likely you still believe that this person is enlightened and that person isn’t, even though you can’t know that via your own definition.

In that case, what you’re likely doing is publicly stating that the definition of enlightenment is such and such, but then you actually evaluate others by whether you personally feel they’re enlightened. Or by whether they satisfy a few specific, measurable criteria. And then you actually have a measurable definition for enlightenment -- but it’s one that doesn’t sound very good or is easy to criticize, and so you hide behind a better-sounding, more formal definition.

And it’s more complicated by the fact that unenlightened people are often worse than they think at judging whether another person is enlightened.

Part of the confusion is that enlightenment is thought of as that stage you reach after a lot of spiritual growth. However, spiritual growth is an imprecisely defined term itself.

People use the term “spiritual growth” as if it’s a one-dimensional path, where you first do this, then you encounter that, then you do these five things, and then you’re enlightened.

It’s more accurate to think of spiritual growth as having sub-categories. Namely: there’s how loving someone is, there’s someone’s skill at seeing things as they really are, how much spiritual knowledge someone has, how compassionate they are, how much peace of mind they have, how many so-called supernatural abilities they have, how pleasant their energy is, how much self-insight they have, et cetera.

And if you map all those categories onto a single scale called “spiritual growth”, and then you create another imprecise term on top of that called “enlightenment” for a certain stage of “spiritual growth”... then you can see the confusion.

This doesn’t mean that you need to stop using these terms. Sometimes they’re accurate enough, and being very precise would just be inefficient.

However this means that you should be aware that for example spiritual growth has sub-categories, and that not everyone who uses the term “spiritually advanced” means the same thing.

Ideally you’d have a whole bunch of terms that describe specific forms of spiritual attainment, and you wouldn’t just use one term “enlightenment” to refer to anyone who is exceptionally good in any spiritual subcategory.

Next up: some people think that all Pleiadians are the equivalent of Earth ascended masters. However Tunia recently said that we’re not. So, which is true?

Well, in some subcategories of spirituality, even the average Pleiadian is very advanced. The average Pleiadian is loving, has peace of mind and has a pleasant energy. Most likely you would love to interact with them.

Whereas in some subcategories of spirituality, even advanced Pleiadians are not at the level of Earth ascended masters.

Although obviously Pleiadians are individuals, in general you can have a pretty good idea of what we’re are like just by thinking how Earth humans would be if they were raised in a safe, loving, abundant, high-tech, high-information, cloistered, almost ivory-tower like environment with little external pressure on them to grow and develop.

Advanced Pleiadians are people who were raised in that environment and who chose to spend a lot of time meditating, introspecting and becoming very good and experienced at some occupation.

Some of you think: “you Pleiadians have spaceships and psychic abilities and are loving, therefore you must be spiritually advanced, therefore you must be wise enough that you’re always making the right decisions, including when it comes to when you’ll intervene or land.”

However “spiritual advancement” is an imprecise term. In reality we’re very advanced in some areas, and not so much in others.

I’ve come to believe that us Pleiadians are simply not very spiritually advanced in the subcategory of understanding what life is like on harsh worlds (such as Earth).

Us Pleiadians are like houses with a very strong foundation (because we were raised with love, safety and abundance). And if something painful happens to us (say, our father dies), then that’s like a broken window.

That broken window is painful but also not that big of a deal. We just repair the window, by getting some healing, doing some observation, working through the emotions, et cetera.

Hence many Pleiadians have the attitude that intervention / landing isn’t yet necessary. Instead we’ll just give you some subtle covert help, some channeled messages filled with love and maybe a few meditation techniques. And then you can fix your own broken window, right? Just meditate. Just take productive action.

However, Earth humans aren’t like houses with a very strong foundation that happen to have a broken window. Instead many of you have never had a strong foundation, because you’ve never been raised in love and safety and abundance.

And a person who’s always had a strong foundation yet who’s had a window broken, just fundamentally doesn’t understand what life is like for a person who’s never had a proper foundation. Those two things are just fundamentally incomparable.

Yes, theoretically people can repair their own foundations, but that requires a lot of time, energy, resources, etc. Us Pleiadians are used to having those, but many of you don’t. So it’s like some of you have a wound that just keeps bleeding.

This makes it profoundly unfair for many Pleiadians to have the attitude that you should just repair your own windows -- because that’s a fundamental misdiagnosis of what’s actually going on.

So, I think there’s a solid argument to be made for the view that we should just intervene or land already.

That said, there genuinely are valid arguments for waiting too.

I’ve changed my mind and nowadays if I was in charge, I think I’d order an immediate intervention / landing by us galactics. However, this isn’t a black-and-white situation, and I wouldn’t say that the plan of Ashtar’s council to only intervene / land at the end of this year is wrong. It’s a different choice, it’s one that I would no longer make, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Arguments in favor of and against a short-term intervention can’t be mapped on a one-dimensional scale. So it’s not like a financial calculation where the gains are in dollars, and the losses are in dollars, and you can easily compare them.

Instead, the arguments in favor of and against a short-term intervention are so different, they’re in such different units, that it’s hard to compare them. So it’s hard to say that one position is simply objectively wrong. (If you’re curious about the arguments against a short-term intervention, see previous message “Ashtar: Our new commitment”.)

Finally: even your name is an imprecise term. It’s a useful shorthand, but technically it refers to a unified “person” that doesn’t actually exist.

Instead, you’re a reincarnating soul. And your current incarnation (what you’re experiencing) is a bundle of body parts, biological processes, habits, emotions, thoughts, etc. But this is really more of a (changing) bundle than it is one unified “person.”

This is the realization of “no-self”: that if you look inside, you’ll find that there is no “person” there, there’s just a combination of biological processes, etc.

On Earth sometimes the analogy is used that if you take apart a chariot, then there is nothing left. There is no “chariot” that remains after you remove the wheels, the poles, the seat, etc.

This can help make you much less fearful -- because if there’s no person, then what is there to worry about?

Who is there to protect?

Who is the one that needs to attain wealth and status?

Who is the person that must make sure others like them?

Who is the person that dies after 90 years?

Now yes sure, even if you integrate the realization of “no self”, there can still be an experience of pain afterwards. It’s just that there’s no “person” there that is suffering. There can be pain; there is no “oh no, I’ll be in this much pain forever, I can’t take it, why does this always happen to me?”

And yes, of course it’s fundamentally silly that I used the word “you” while arguing that you don’t really exist (other than as a bundle of biological processes etc). However, as we discussed, imprecise terms like “you” are still useful. It’s not really practical to communicate without ever referring to people or using “I” and “you.”

Sure, you could try to use other terms and descriptions instead of saying “I.” But if you want to communicate with any level of efficiency, most likely you’d just create a different, less efficient term that’s ultimately still imprecise. And you wouldn’t really gain anything.

So feel free to keep using spiritual term shorthands. They’re efficient. It’s just good to keep in mind that spiritual attainment has sub-categories, and to clearly define your terms whenever you’re having an in-depth discussion.
