Thought Adjuster: “Life is not meant to be only suffering, but neither is it a pleasure trip in which you should seek only to do what you enjoy most. You must learn to trust that many of the lessons in your life that may seem unpleasant are, in reality, a blessing—an opportunity to learn the truths that will bring you closer to your eternal goal and to true happiness.

An immature human being may view effort and work as something unpleasant, as a burden that prevents them from enjoying what they consider life's greatest pleasures. A spiritually mature person understands that within work and the effort to become better lies the reward of eternity—the attainment of perfection and likeness to God. Such a person will not choose the easiest path based on a limited perspective, but rather the path that may seem unfamiliar and intimidating, yet promises a greater and higher-quality happiness and well-being.

A fitting analogy is physical training. Someone who wishes to compete in a marathon and perform to the best of their ability must choose how they will prepare. They may prefer to take leisurely walks through the countryside, enjoying the fresh breeze while relaxing their mind. However, if they truly want a chance to win the race, they must make the effort to confront their limits and overcome them. They must run faster and farther, facing the physical and mental exhaustion that such training requires. No athlete in their right mind would choose the easier path, and any coach who came offering such an effortless alternative would have great difficulty convincing even the most naïve athlete to adopt that kind of training.

How, then, is it that human beings are so easily persuaded by those who offer them a quick and easy formula for attaining salvation? How can they accept that an eternal race can be won in a single day? The spiritual journey of the human soul is a continuous process of adjustment and of expressing an ever-increasing perfection, made increasingly genuine through the understanding each individual gains of their Father in heaven. It is a journey that begins in this world and does not end with physical death, but continues until the person stands face to face with God as one like Him—and even beyond that glorious moment.

And just as the wisest athletes have learned through experience, periods of effort must be balanced with periods of rest. Impatience, fanaticism, and obsession produce nothing good. The body needs time to adapt to change and assimilate its training. The soul likewise requires time to internalize the ideas, meanings, and values that gradually transform the personality from the human to the divine. When an athlete rests during a scheduled recovery period, they accept that this pause is necessary and even productive for achieving the ultimate goal. In the same way, when you find yourself in those seasons in which you seem to be standing still, when life feels routine and without purpose, remember that there are no wasted moments in the lives of those who have accepted that they are children of God. Every moment can become, through your decisions and actions, a source of momentum that lifts you ever closer to your eternal destiny.”

Thought Adjuster: “There are many opportunities to express love toward our fellow beings in every relationship in our lives—our friends, our family members, our brothers and sisters by blood, our brothers and sisters in spirit, and so on. We are all engaged in the mission of creating beings of divine perfection who will become the administrators of the universes of the future. This is a collective undertaking and an enterprise that will last for eons, but it is one in which we must all cooperate, helping one another throughout our spiritual progress. Every human being can learn from those who are more advanced while serving as a teacher to those who come behind them.

There are also the opportunities that you yourself can choose by exploring those things that interest you and awaken your curiosity. And finally, do not forget those who have been less favored by circumstances—the materially poor and the spiritually poor. Share a portion of the material and spiritual riches that you enjoy. Remember that to those who have been given much, much will also be required.

And how can you make sure that you take advantage of this great tide of opportunities? Simply by making the effort to maintain that inner connection with your Father in heaven through your Thought Adjuster. It is the human will—your intention—that determines the degree to which divine guidance is received. As long as you keep alive in your heart the desire to become the very best you can be and to know God ever more fully, you will possess both the motivation and the ability to recognize opportunities for spiritual growth and to use them as stepping stones on the ladder of your spiritual progress.

If you live in this way, life ceases to be merely a succession of routine events, because everything that happens becomes an opportunity to grow spiritually and to become a personality that is ever more nearly perfect. Each morning you will awaken with the hope of encountering situations and experiences in which you can express your highest nature and embark upon the adventure of becoming more like God. Routine then becomes a thing of the past, because even though outwardly you may appear to be doing the same things—the same work, with the same coworkers, in the same place—each day you will discover something new to express, a new way to reveal God to your fellow beings and to yourself.

Life thus gradually becomes, for those who live in this manner, an endless journey of discovery, in which they come to understand their purpose ever more clearly and uncover the wonders of the universe and its Creator. This is not merely an illustration expressed in poetic language; it is an attempt to convey the idea that, by coming to know yourself and your brothers and sisters, and by striving to improve each day, you draw ever closer to a higher and more complete understanding of the Creator.”

Thought Adjuster: “A common mistake among human beings is to fall in love with their evolutionary religion and indulge in fantasies about the promises they imagine as rewards for their efforts to follow "the rules" and do what their particular beliefs require of them. They spend so much time dreaming and imagining the things to come that they neglect the present and ignore the opportunities that appear before them each day. Their religion is a religion of escapism, a religion that dreams of a glorious destination without paying attention to the effort required to reach it.

The first thing you must understand is that the true goal of a human being's spiritual progression is to draw closer to God. This approach is gradual and evolutionary. Consider that you cannot truly comprehend, at this moment, what it really means to stand in the personal presence of God—the goal of your efforts. There are no human words or illustrations capable of conveying the sublime and glorious experience of that future moment in your eternal career. There is still a long journey ahead before you can even begin to grasp what this event will be like. Therefore, it is not worthwhile to spend so much time focused on this eternal promise. It is enough to remember it as a source of motivation and inspiration for your daily struggles.

The second factor to consider is that this mortal life is rich with opportunities for spiritual growth and serves as the foundation of your eternal career. Many of the opportunities presented here—especially on a world like this one—will not be found anywhere else, and once your mortal life has ended, you will not be able to return. Focus a little more on the present so that you may keep your "eyes open" to the opportunities that appear before you each day and make the most of them.

How do these opportunities arise? In a world as diverse and dynamic as this one, opportunities to serve your fellow human beings present themselves every day. Those who are parents have the daily privilege of offering loving service to their children, and this is a wonderful opportunity to express the very best within themselves and to become a reflection of the Universal Father for their own children, cooperating with the Father in the task of nurturing souls that will become valuable citizens of the kingdom. Being a human father or mother is a precious opportunity for service and the source of profound lessons and deep revelations about the nature of God, provided that human parents strive to carry out this responsibility in the highest way possible.”

Thought Adjuster: “Spiritual enlightenment must be a gradual process. Even if we experience moments of clarity that establish a certain level of understanding, these levels will always be starting points for greater achievements. Our understanding of God is never complete, not even when we reach our ultimate destiny and attain His personal presence, for many more things about the Father and His creation will be revealed during our eternal future of universal service.

In the life of Jesus, we observe how a man attained divine perfection during a short human lifetime. There was nothing supernatural about this progression, which was truly evolutionary. Jesus entered this world just as many other human beings have done, as a helpless and nearly unconscious infant. Gradually, He gained mastery over His mind, and the adjutant mind spirits began to function within Him in the same way they do in all other human beings.

Jesus had the advantage of possessing a strong spiritual interest, and because of this, the mental influence of His helpers—especially the spirits of worship and wisdom—was more pronounced and effective. These two spirits made great advances in opening Jesus’ material mind to the realities of the spirit. Again, this is the same work these spirits perform in all human minds. Eventually, Jesus awakened to another reality and transcended His human level, drawing so close to His Father that His spiritual mind gained complete mastery over His material mind, foreshadowing the capacity for fusion with the Thought Adjuster—that is, the complete identification of the human will with the superhuman spiritual will governed by the Father's will. In other words, the highest human will was functioning fully and exercising control over the lower human will.

This journey toward perfection is open to all human beings. The Thought Adjusters, the Spirit of Truth, the Adjutant Mind Spirits, and the Holy Spirit of the local universe begin their years-long—often decades-long—project of opening each mortal's mind to the realities of the spirit. They do this in the manner best suited to each individual human soul, always under the guidance of the Thought Adjuster, who knows the human subject better than anyone else. They accomplish this through natural and evolutionary methods.

Finally, do not forget that all growth is relative. Every level attained is a step on the ladder toward perfection, a temporary foundation upon which you can begin working toward higher achievements that will lead you to the next levels. Rejoice in your present accomplishments, but do not forget the accomplishments of the future. Continue working and striving to become the very best that you are capable of being.”

Thought Adjuster: “You can realize how busy and distracted your mind can be, and emerging from that state certainly requires effort. It was easier when life in this world was simpler, freer from distractions and from the influences of mass media, electronic devices, news, rumors, noise, and so on. Now there are so many things competing for the attention of human beings that the subtle feeling of connecting with the source of all things—the Universal Father—often goes unnoticed.

Nevertheless, the Father is still there, in the hearts and minds of His children, and somehow His influence finds its way through the noise to make itself felt. When this initial prompting receives the support of the human will, the necessary factors combine to produce the spiritual enlightenment that begins to reveal God's path and plan for the life of the individual and for all creation.

Truly, I tell you that if you spent more time ‘awake,’ you would have greater mastery over your life and your destiny. Every day, human beings must make decisions, and when these decisions are made by an awakened mind—a mind connected with the transcendent—the potential of those decisions and of the actions they generate is likewise transcendent, of eternal value. Yes, it requires effort at this stage of your life, but little by little, you can become more familiar with this elevated state of being and make it the basic state from which you function. This is possible, and this is your destiny if you choose to engage in the good fight of faith.

Jesus lived the vast majority of His life in this state, especially during the final years of His mortal adult life. It was precisely because of His ability to remain awake that He could so easily recognize the spiritual hunger of those around Him and offer them exactly what they needed at that moment. This enlightened state is the same one you will seek to experience more and more during your journey toward perfection, and as you have already discovered, it is simply a matter of experiencing closeness to the Father and operating from a higher level of your own being.”

Thought Adjuster: “Many times, you have read ancient and modern authors and suspected that they were ‘inspired’ by supermaterial agents. Often this has indeed been the case, and not only in matters related to spirituality, but also in many other ideas touching different areas of human life. Let us now consider how this communication can be facilitated and what the ‘requirements’ are for effective communication.

The first requirement is the ability to listen to the celestial teachers and to establish a transcendental contact—beyond the material realm—with the ideas and truths one wishes to know. We declare that the only thing needed for this is a normal human mind. Therefore, everyone who meets this requirement has the capacity to establish this connection. The only things that can prevent it are false human expectations and mistaken ideas that may be held in the mind. For example, if someone expects to hear the voice of God like thunder on a mountain or expects to witness Hollywood-style special effects with lightning and flashes, that person will be disappointed. If someone seeks to establish the connection with the desire to gain a selfish advantage over others, the expected results will not be obtained. But for everyone who is sincere in the desire to draw closer to the Father and learn more about their origin and destiny, the doors are open, provided that they possess the discipline to master their own mind in such a way that they can receive and accept new ideas.

Another thing that effectively blocks contact with the celestial teachers is the beliefs that have been instilled in your mind since birth. Many sincerely believe that it is impossible to converse with God. They will not even attempt it, and if they happen to receive something, they will ignore and dismiss it because they ‘know’ that such a thing is impossible. Those who are bound in this way by their dogmas and self-limiting beliefs find it very difficult to overcome this condition. They are even at a disadvantage compared to those who do not believe in God at all, for the latter may receive spiritual influences and take them into account as their own ideas, whereas those subject to dogma find it very difficult to adopt new ideas if they conflict with what they believe.

As you can see, the issue is not possessing the talent, but rather removing the obstacles that each person carries in life and in their personality in order to establish an effective working relationship with the celestial teachers and, above all, with their Thought Adjuster. Unfortunately, many in this world sincerely believe that the distance between themselves and their Heavenly Father is insurmountable. They are the ones who would benefit most from the example of lives that express truth, beauty, and goodness, just as Jesus lived two thousand years ago. Dogma may resist contradictory ideas, but no human soul can fail to appreciate manifestations of truth, beauty, and goodness—love—without perceiving in these things the fragrance of the spirit and beholding in them the ever-clearer image of the Father.”

Thought Adjuster: “When contemplating his humble origin, the human being tends to forget the importance of his life as the foundation of his spiritual career. It is here, upon this earth, where you experience physical pain, fatigue, fear, uncertainty, impatience, helplessness, resignation, loneliness, and many other things that affect your spirit. These are the normal occurrences of life, but they are also the greatest opportunities presented to you to affirm your faith and rise above all these things.

Patience is a desirable attribute, but you will only learn to be patient by facing, day after day, the delays of time. You will only learn to remain calm in the midst of the storm if you confront, again and again, storms of increasing power. Such is human life: learning through experience.

But it is this very experience that will provide you with the supreme satisfaction of recognizing your own spiritual progress. Time and again you will face the storms of life, and if your commitment to finding the Father and following His guidance remains steadfast, eventually you will begin to experience victory over these storms until they become trivial to you. It is at that moment that you will discover how much you have grown spiritually and how prepared you are for your eternal career. Every lesson learned will be something you can demonstrate during your life, offering you a faithful portrait of the quality of your spiritual progress.

Therefore, instead of fearing or rejecting the difficulties of life, consider these inevitable realities as opportunities to manifest the power of your will. Make the obstacles that cross your path into the stepping stones that will help you ascend to the heights of perfection. Face problems not as a victim of fate, but as the architect of your own enlightenment, using wisdom to guide your decisions and actions toward what is eternal and true, always seeking the divine guidance of the Father who speaks to you from the deepest part of your being.”

Thought Adjuster: “Today, we will speak about how to take advantage of the abundant opportunities that mortal life provides for establishing the foundation of an eternal spiritual career.

We look with pleasure upon your longing for spiritual things. We know of your desire and your curiosity to see the “promised land” — the next level of life as you have imagined it. This desire is healthy and, to a certain extent, serves as additional motivation for your efforts to grow in spirit. However, as with all things, moderation and balance are necessary. Do not allow your eagerness to see the life of the future to rob you of the possibilities of your present life.

Just as you desire to reach the new worlds on high, many up there truly envy the life you are living. Many would wish to have the opportunity that you are enjoying right now: to cultivate a dynamic and intelligent faith, to achieve great spiritual accomplishments, and to demonstrate your trustworthiness to the entire universe by being the best you can be while living in a confused and backward world.

All the hardships and deficiencies experienced in this world truly make your life more difficult, but at the same time, they provide you with a unique opportunity to exercise your faith and your trust in the invisible Father. The spiritual progress you achieve here will be regarded as more meaningful and more important than the things others may accomplish in more normal worlds. Do not grieve over all the disadvantages this world offers. Rather, rejoice because before you lies the great opportunity to forge yourselves into beings faithful to the Father’s will even in adversity — beings in whom the entire great universe will place complete trust, for you will have demonstrated that your love for the Father transcends every condition, obstacle, or confusion.

These conditions, so favorable for producing beings of the highest spiritual quality, do not occur very often throughout all creation. Therefore, if you wish to attain the maximum spiritual growth to which you can aspire, make sure to take advantage of these opportunities that present themselves each day in your life. Not a day goes by without your encountering someone whose soul languishes in darkness, longing for a ray of light or a hand to help them rise. This is the greatest undertaking you can pursue in your life — to love your fellow beings to such a degree that you place them on the path toward perfection and toward the magnificent and eternal achievements that you desire for yourself.”

Thought Adjuster: “Many times, human beings underestimate the power of their own will. In your moments of indecision, when you stumble and make decisions that you know do not bring you closer to the Father, you do not do so because you do not know which path to follow, nor because you lack the strength to adjust or correct your course. You simply assume that you cannot do it—you decide that your will is not that strong—and then you seek a thousand and one reasons to justify what you do.

However, I repeat to you here and now that the human will possesses complete freedom and has such power that it could transform you into a perfected being of divine dignity—Godlike—if you decide to make use of this power that has already been placed in your hands. Consider that not even the Father permits Himself to contradict the designs of your will; therefore, if the Father cannot, who could? You can affirm the power and sovereignty of your own will in your life, and you have the capacity to discipline your entire being and thus turn yourself into the very best you can become. This is indeed the greatest creative achievement of this stage of your existence: to create yourself, under divine guidance, as a being of ever-growing perfection.

How can you take the kingdom by spiritual assault? This has nothing to do with fanaticism directed toward dogma or with intolerance. It is a noble undertaking filled with dynamism and requiring all the courage and dedication that the human personality can invest. It is simply the effort to be better each day, the struggle to express, always and in every situation of life, the best of your nature. It is to be truly holy, just as Jesus was, without affectation and without spiritual vanity. It means seeking only to draw closer to God with every word, every action, every thought, and every decision you make. It also means becoming, in this way, a demonstration of the Father’s character to your fellow beings.

In reality, understanding what must be done to manifest genuine spiritual growth in life is not the difficult part. The difficulty appears in those moments when you are exhausted, overwhelmed, upset, disappointed, afraid, and so on. All these feelings are natural to the human being. By this, I mean that they will arise spontaneously in your life as an automatic response to the different situations you face. However, there is something within you that can step aside and contemplate what is happening from a higher point of view. You can observe what you feel, what you think, what you say, and what you do, and when this self-observation becomes conscious, you can exercise influence over the situation.

Thus, by striving to become the best you can be, you progressively become an expert in the art of using every situation presented to you for your spiritual growth. You will have no control over the events that may occur in your life, but you will begin to exercise an ever more complete mastery over the way you allow those events to affect you. And it is in this way—through the effort that promotes true spiritual growth—that the human being becomes the master of his own destiny, the artist who draws his own life, and the director of the creation of his own reality. It is then that the human will begins to experience the highest degree of freedom possible, where it can work effectively toward the achievement of eternal goals.”

Thought Adjuster: “You ask yourself the reason for your life. Why has the Creator Father created you? Perhaps He could have decided that you were not really necessary. Perhaps He might change His mind and forget about you. The problem with this doubt and this way of thinking is that it is essentially human; it does not consider the point of view of a divine and perfect mind, for whom everything has a purpose, and this purpose is the highest expression of truth, beauty, and goodness.

In reality, your existence was inevitable. You are in the world because the Father so desired it. Back in the dawn of eternity, when the idea for the creation of all that exists was formed in the mind of the Father, you were already part of that plan. Long before the superuniverses began organizing their energy, before the spheres of space appeared, before the nebulas condensed into stars and planets, you were already in the mind of the Father, with all your attributes, your mysteries, your doubts, and above all, your great potential.

Do you now understand the true value of a human life? You are not a random product of evolution who, through the generosity of the creators, will be given the opportunity to attain perfection. Quite the opposite. You are a planned event for which much preparation and careful coordination by a number of personalities and beings beyond your comprehension has been required. When Michael of Nebadon left Paradise to organize his universe, he did so under the precise orders of the Paradise Father to prepare a universe where His children would live, among them you. Millions of years after that event, everything was prepared for you to make your appearance and begin the long process of training that will help you in the assignments of eternal service that have been prepared for you.

How can man imagine that he has been abandoned by God? How does the human being dare to consider himself an accident, a chance consequence of a blind destiny? How can a person question his purpose, the reason for her existence? How much confusion can fill the minds of mortals to make them doubt their own worth? Consider for a moment all the events and spiritual agencies that have collaborated since long before space-time, preparing everything so that you could be here and now.

And so great is the Father’s love that even when He imagined you as an essential and necessary part of His eternal purpose, He also gave you the freedom to choose for yourself whether you will embrace this destiny or wish to explore other alternatives. The Father has done this because, within those other alternatives, many opportunities for learning may be hidden, and even though in His perfection He knows which is the best path for you, He has left room for uncertainty and surprise, so that you may discover new things and acquire the wisdom to understand that the best path truly is the one the Father has prepared for you.

Creation is not a whimsical act by a bored deity looking for something to pass the time. Creation is an act divinely planned by a Father who thereby fulfills His need to give Himself to His creatures and express His divinity. In other words, it is in creation that God fulfills His deepest need and finds His fullest manifestation, by granting His divine love without conditions or measure to all His children.”

Thought Adjuster: “Mortal life always involves difficulties because of the conditions of relative imperfection in which mortal reality must necessarily develop. This is even more true on a world like Urantia, which has been the victim of errors in supermaterial administration due to the planetary rebellion. However, many of the difficulties you experience during your mortal life are preventable and, to some extent, avoidable, because in reality most of the problems in this world have been and still are caused by yourselves.

Consider the great number of illnesses that arise from the stress under which a large part of the population lives. Long working hours, together with the real or imagined needs that many try to satisfy, are the main cause of stress for most people. But what would happen if you decided that money is not the most important thing? Suddenly, the desire to climb the ‘corporate ladder’ would not seem so important. Competition to seize resources or to produce something before someone else would cease to be a source of suffering and anguish. Once your real needs had been met, you would be satisfied with the way you have chosen to earn your living and would have time to explore other interests.

Consider wars based on ambition and distrust. What if you decided that the most important thing in this world, and what must be defended at all costs, is human life — the life of each and every one of you? Suddenly, the desire to be right and to force others to think the same way loses its power. You would no longer concern yourselves with taking resources from other nations or defending to the death what you believe you possess. Differences of opinion would remain just that — differences of opinion. You could spend your time discussing theories or dogmas and exploring alternatives, but at the end of the day everyone would go home as friends, as part of the same planetary family. Those whom you do not know would no longer seem like a potential threat, nor would they awaken your animal fears, because you would have accepted that all are equal: personalities seeking their own path toward perfection, striving to understand their origin and attain their destiny — the Universal Father.

Consider hunger, disease, and natural disasters. What if you decided that your primary mission is to sustain your planetary home while you live upon it? You would no longer exploit natural resources as though you were the last beings who would ever live here. You would think carefully about what you do and how it will affect the lives your children will live. You would cease hoarding greedily out of fear of loss and would strive to distribute natural resources more fairly, resources that truly belong to everyone. Thus, you would understand that this world already offers you everything you need to live and even more, and that no one should have to experience deprivation and lack of resources as a consequence of unequal distribution.

It is time for the human beings of this world to learn that what happens on your planet depends on your individual and collective decisions and actions. It is time for everyone to accept responsibility for their actions, for what is seen in the world today — both good and bad — is the result of the way of thinking and the aspirations of its inhabitants. The higher the aspirations — the closer the human will of each individual comes to the divine will of the Father — the better the condition of this planet will be. As universal citizens, you must master the art of cultivating your personal achievements while contributing to collective achievements — planetary, universal, and superuniversal. This world will attain the age of light and life when light and life become present in the minds and souls of all the inhabitants of this world. Therefore, whenever each one of you chooses to follow the guidance of your divine spark, your world moves one step closer toward the goal of perfection.”

Thought Adjuster: “Any situation in which you choose to put yourself in contact with your Inner Master and seek connection with your Father in order to focus your daily efforts is time well spent. You can do this while walking, running, jumping, dancing, driving, writing, or doing anything else, as long as the activity allows you to focus your attention properly. Walking is a good method that has been used by many throughout the history of your world. However, it is not the only method.

It is worth noting that when people insist on creating the perfect conditions to establish contact with the Father, they impose unnecessary requirements. Many believe that to draw closer to God, they must go to the top of a mountain, visit a place others have called ‘sacred,’ or withdraw from the rest of their brothers and sisters. These methods may be suitable for special occasions, but communion with God should not be something exceptional—it should be a relationship cultivated daily.

Therefore, go to the Father at any moment in your life whenever you wish. There is no need to make an appointment or establish a ritual. The Father is always ready to ‘converse’ with His creatures and to offer the best of Himself—His wisdom and His love—to help us achieve our eternal goals. This connection is what a human being needs most, for it is the key to transcending their present state and increasingly approaching the purest and most authentic expression of their personality, just as the Father intends it to be.

Also, learn to accept the necessity of time in your process of spiritual growth. I know you desire to advance and enjoy spiritual delights, but you must prepare yourself for higher things. I am preparing you for something better, and together we will achieve it, for the greater and more beautiful things that await you will also be the reward for My efforts.”
